Curing the compost
Composting has two stages
1. Active phase
2 Curing phase
Active phase is what most of us think of as the composting process, it is a phase of visual change of food waste into compost.End of this is sensed by the earthy fragrance of the black gold/compost and the temperature of the pile cooling down.
Curing phase is what follows when the temperature starts coming down and the pile once again becomes a favourable environment for the beneficial compost life forms. Compost should be kept moist and aerated during this period. It allows completion of the composting process.
Curing helps improve pH, lower Carbon: Nitrogen ratio and is recommended for better stability of compost.Leave your compost to mature for 4-5 weeks to get maximum benefits.
